How to Find Hope and Love in the Midst of Uncertainty

The Lord reigns, He is clothed with majesty; The Lord has clothed and girded Himself with strength; Indeed, the world is firmly established, it will not be moved. (2) Your throne is established from of old; You are from everlasting. (3) The floods have lifted up, O Lord, The floods have lifted up their voice, The floods lift up their pounding waves. (4) More than the sounds of many waters, Than the mighty breakers of the sea, The Lord on high is mighty. (Psalm 93:1-4, NASB 1995)
Uncertainty is one of the worst possible struggles humans can experience. It’s a complicated mental state in which we can’t process the unknown. And when we don’t know what will happen in the future—especially about things that connect to us, anxiety sets in. We get unsettled, and soon, fear and doubt becloud the soul.
In other words, we lose hope.
As Christians, it can be challenging to trust in God's plan when faced with the unknown, the uncertain. But the Bible reminds us that God is in control, even when it doesn't feel like it (Romans 8:28).
The world can be a difficult place, and it can be hard to find hope and love amid uncertainty. But the good news is, it’s possible. Here’s why: As Christians, we’re assured that God—the source of our hope and love—reigns above the noise of uncertainty. Thus, because we know that God is always with us, we can rest assured that things will ultimately work for our good if we don’t lose faith.
The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea. (Psalm 93:4, KJV)
Like everyone else, I sometimes feel overwhelmed by the uncertainty of life. But when I do, I always take a step back and remember the promises of God. He promises to never leave us nor forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6). He promises to be our refuge and strength (Psalm 46:1). He promises to be our hope and our peace (Isaiah 26:3).
I ensure to remember that God is in control, even when it doesn’t seem like it. And no matter how long evil may persist, good will always prevail.
Beloved, I encourage you to hold on to the assurance that God is in control and that He is with you, especially in times of uncertainty. Here are ten powerful ways to find hope and love amid uncertainty. They’ve worked for me; they will for you as well.
- Pray. Pray to God that He will give you strength, courage, and wisdom to face the uncertainty. Ask Him to fill you with His peace and hope.
- Spend Time in His Word. Reading the Bible is a great way to find hope and love amid uncertainty. His Word will remind us of His promises and truth for our lives, no matter what we are facing.
- Reach Out to Others. Connecting with other believers can be a source of encouragement and hope. Talking to others who have faced similar adversity or uncertainties and listening to their triumph stories can help us feel supported and encouraged.
- Focus on What You Can Control. It can be difficult to stay focused on what is within our control, especially when we are facing uncertainty. Taking steps to focus on the things that you can control can help to bring a sense of stability and peace.
- Find Joy in Small Things. Taking time to be grateful for the ‘seemingly’ small things in life can help to bring a sense of joy, even when the outcome is uncertain.
- Cultivate Gratitude. Practicing an attitude of gratitude can help to bring a sense of peace and hope.
- Find Strength in Your Weaknesses. God can use our weaknesses to bring about His strength and power. Asking God to help you to find strength in your weaknesses can be a source of hope.
- Take Time for Self-Care. Taking care of yourself physically, mentally, and spiritually can help to refresh you and restore depleted energy. It’s always easier to face uncertainty with a clearer head.
- Remember Who Is In Control. Reminding ourselves that God is in control can help to bring a sense of peace and hope amid uncertainty.
- Look to the Future. Looking to the future with hope and faith can be a source of strength and comfort in times of uncertainty.
Because no matter the situation, this, too, shall pass. And when you’re finally out of that tunnel, you will surely bask in the light at the end of it because you persevered. And your joy will know no bounds. Never lose hope!
